Alvin J. Pimsler, a former president of The Society of Illustrators, is a graduate of Pratt Institute and attended the Art Students League and The National Academy School of Fine Art. He was a professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Pimsler was President of “The Artists Fellowship” and is internationally known for his high fashion illustrations. His client list includes almost all the high fashion publications and men’s fashion houses. As a free-lance artist, he worked for over 25 years for Saks Fith Avenue and also illustrated the men’s fashion section of The New York Times for many years.
He approaches painting from the point of view that, in addition to it’s function of recording a distinctive portrayal of the subject, it must also be satisfying as an interesting work. His painting has a freshness and immediacy which reflect his direct painting from life. The resulting work bypasses the more academic styles and has a very contemporary look.
